What is a hero?

What is a hero? People have different opinions on what makes a hero. My opinion is that anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter if you do a big or small thing. Let's say you save your dog. You are probably a hero for your dog, and maybe someone else who owns the dog with you. You may not be a hero for our country like one of the veterans, but you are still a hero in my opinion because you saved a life.

One reason that supports my opinion is that people do good and bad things all the time. Even if you just make sure a kid looks both ways before crossing the street, you probably just decreased the risk of that child getting hurt. To me that means you are a hero. When I say anyone can be a hero I mean you have to do something good to help someone. If you do something bad or nothing at all to help someone, then you are definitely not a hero! So if you want to be a hero then just do something good for someone or something else.

Another thing you may like to know is that children are the future. They will be the new adults sooner or later. Do you want the new adults to be smart and brave for all the tasks adults have to do? Well if you do, you need to teach them how to be brave and all the things that make them smart. That is the job for the parents and teachers! So they are definitely heroes. You could have a fire in your house some day. Who is going to put it out then? The future adult firefighters! They have to know how to work with other people. So that means the people who taught them teamwork are also heroes! They could be parents, coaches, teachers, and maybe just friends. Those people are all heroes.

The final reason is that if someone didn’t save their dog or put out the future fire, then Earth would lose many lives. What about picking up trash? That is being a hero because an animal could have gotten stuck in the trash or could have eaten it and gotten sick. You have saved that animal. What I think is that you could do something small like picking up trash or planting food for people to eat, but you are helping people so you are a hero! Doing something big like saving the county or being a part of some huge rescue mission is good and you are definitely a hero for that! I just think that you don’t need to do something like that to be a hero, you just need to do something that will help a life.

In summary I think that you just have to do something good like saving your dog, or teaching kids the right things or picking up trash, and you still are a hero because you helped or saved someone not for a medal or a chance to be in the news to be nice and to make our world a better place. So do something small but good and it will still be huge because you will be a hero!
