All about Mr. Huber

by Sofia Flores

Things to know about Mr.Huber. Why did he become a teacher? He became a teacher because when he was growing up he really enjoyed school. He also enjoys working with kids and teaching them. What's his least favorite thing about teaching? Mr.Huber really dislikes when it’s flu season or any illness is going around. His favorite thing about teaching is learning about the students and who they are as people. Why does he teach Social Studies? He believes that it is very important for kids to learn about the people in the past and the background of many people in the world. If he could teach something else what would it be? If he could teach something else he said it would be math. What could be his favorite thing to teach, well it's Egypt and Rome. What's his least favorite thing to teach? He dislikes teaching Paleolithic era. Overall that's all about Mr.Huber.

Veterans - Opinion

by Brevyn Olson

Veterans are very important so we should respect them. Veterans do so much for us they fight for us veterans. Veterans die for us. It's so important to be respectful to veterans. Some people think it's not that important to be a veteran. And I hope you can tell others that veterans do a lot for us. Veterans help kids go to school and help people go to work. Veterans help stop wars. Veterans also save the animals. Veterans take time out there day to sometimes talk to us. Veterans half to leave their families and their kids for us. to fight the war and they might die for us. And what some people do they think it's not important. So tell other veterans are important. Thank you veterans for doing what you do.

The Championship Game

 by Allison In’t Veld

The championship game between Yankton and Pierre was a tough one. Many fans were excited to see how the game was going to go. All the fans were on the edge of their seats waiting for the game to start. The game started with Yankton’s Josue Trujillomelgoza kicking off. Pierre received it around the thirty yard line, and they were off. Pierre’s number 2, Tyan Buss ran it to the 40 yard line. Pierre Continued to run the ball most of the time in the next few plays. They got far enough that they eventually felt comfortable to pass it in for a touchdown. The pass-while being a good pass-was overthrown and resulted in an incomplete pass. Now I’m not going to go play by play but I will give the important details. Around the end of the first quarter, and I mean like a minute left Pierre called a timeout. Right after they called a timeout Pierre ran it in for a touchdown and the first quarter ended with a score of 7 to 0. The next quarter started as Ynkton’s ball and soon after they started Yankton punted all the way to the 2 yard line. When we went in to score before we even started there was a flag. The flag ended up being a false start on the offense.(which was us) The ball was now Pierre’s and they immediately turned it around. They threw a pass to number 5, Cade Kaiser and he ran it in for a touchdown! Their kicker made the field so the score was now 14 to 0. Pierre’s punt was caught by number 12, Carson Ness. Yankton’s Middle School social studies teacher, Mr. Hueber was doing a great job coaching. This game went back and forth between Yankton and Pierre. There were some calls that fans weren't happy with on either side but in the end this game is one that everybody is going to remember. I mean clearly the fans will remember it, they were everywhere and the dome was packed. This game was truly amazing and it's awesome that the Bucks even got here. The end score was 35 to 7 and sadly we lost. But I don't think that this loss is going to stop any of the bucks. Some will play next year and some will do amazing in college. I think all the Bucks have a bright future and amazing talent.

New Lunch Rule - Opinion

By: Jerry Lati

The lunch rules have been changed. The problem is we cannot go up and get some sauces for example what if you forget to do get some ranch. Another problem we cannot get up and get straw and you forget to get one. The last lunch rules we go to go up and get the things we forgot to get but the new lunch rules we have to raise our hands and ask for one same goes to napkins, spoons, forks. Last lunch rules we had to clean our tables and wash it but now the lunchroom do the cleaning. They wash the tables and make us food so I think we need to thank them once a while. What do you think middle schoolers should bring back our old lunch rules???

Marching Band

photo and story by Dustin Saffel

Yankton Middle School Band is a fine arts class similar to Art, Concert Choir, and Orchestra. The Band director of the middle school is Tessa Belgum. The sixth graders in the band can only do concert band and have band class second and seventh periods. While the seventh and eighth graders are required to do concert band and marching band, their class periods are third and eighth period. Seventh and eighth graders also have the ability to join jazz band. The marching band has 136 students in it.

This year, the seventh and eighth graders played “Havana,” arranged by Matt Conaway as their marching tune. The drum majors this year are Sawyer Maibaum and Allayna Seiler. They have traveled to Parker, Sd, and Menno, Sd this year. They also played at our Homecoming Parade and our very own March to the Meridian. In Parker, they were awarded second place and best drumline for the junior high division. While in Menno, they also won second place. And in past years, they have been awarded first place at Beresford in 2023 and second at Menno Band Day 2023.

Fall Dance Coming Soon!

by Summer Olson

There is a fall dance coming up this month, it’s exciting but there are a few things that kids should know. First of all 6th graders are not allowed to come to the dance, however the 6th grade student council will be serving concessions there. You cannot enter if you have any missing work, your teachers will make sure that you have no work and will give you a ticket to show at the entrance. Along with that ticket you’ll need five dollars for admission. Once you are in you can’t leave until your parents pick you up. It runs from 7:00 to 9:00. Nice dress is not required but the dress code still applies. It is October 27th. There is no theme but it will still be fun. Have fun!

Special Someones!

by Jerry Lati

A "Special Someone" is when teachers write your name on a blank piece of paper then they turn it in the office but that’s only if they see if you’re working hard and well. Once they turned it in the office they put in a bowl or jar and pick out a name for each grade. Once that is done Mrs. Todd or someone else will announce the people who got there name chosen. She will come someone name from each grade. If you heard your name get called you go down to 6th and 8th grade office. Once you are there you will claim your reward.
